Water Pressure Set Where Your Pipes and Fixtures Want It, Starting With a Gauge, Not a Guess

The pressure reducing valve, or PRV, in a Fredericksburg, VA house sits where the water line comes in and holds the pressure down. When it fails, you get banging pipes, running toilets and leaking fixtures, or a trickle at every tap. A Clog Heroes technician puts a gauge on the line, tells you what's wrong and writes down the price to adjust, repair or replace the valve. Say yes on site and the $89 dispatch fee is waived.

Water you can't shut off is an emergency. Calls are answered 24/7 at (540) 518-2564.

Signs Your Pressure Reducing Valve Needs Help

A PRV can fail two ways: it lets too much pressure through, or it chokes the water down. Both show up at your fixtures first.

  • Banging or Hammering Pipes

High pressure slams valves shut hard enough to knock the pipes. You hear it when a washer or toilet valve closes.

  • Toilets That Keep Running, Faucets That Drip

Too much pressure pushes past fill valves and washers. Replacing the part helps for a while, then it starts again.

  • The Water Heater Relief Valve Drips

High house pressure can make the relief valve on your water heater let water out.

  • Low Pressure Everywhere at Once

A PRV that's clogged or failed partly closed starves the whole house. One weak faucet is usually the faucet; every faucet is usually upstream.

  • Pressure That Swings

Strong one minute and weak the next points to a worn valve that can't hold its setting.

Test the Pressure, Then Adjust, Repair or Replace

Your technician measures the pressure before touching the valve. Sometimes the valve only needs adjusting. Sometimes it needs a rebuild, and sometimes the whole valve should be replaced. Read our PRV problems guide for more on how these valves fail.

PRV Repair and Adjustment

A valve that's simply set wrong gets adjusted. One with worn internal parts can often be rebuilt. The pressure is checked with a gauge again when the work is done.

New Valve

PRV Replacement

A valve that can't hold pressure is cut out and replaced at the main line, with the water shut off for as short a time as possible. The new valve is set and checked with a gauge before we leave.

What Customers Said About Pressure Reducing Valve Repair & Replacement

Google reviews that mention this job, quoted word for word.

The plumber knows his business. He detailed what must be done however very expensive. All I need is approximately 3 feet of PVC and a Pee pipe which would be about $50 - $60 worth of material. They're charging $1800 for install and to swap out a pressure reducer an additional $800????? He also informed me that swapping out the pressure reducer mat not solve my low water volume problem yet, Id still have to pay for it. I definitely need to shop around before obtaining their services. $2600 for maybe 4 hours or less of service.
