Clog Heroes, the Culpeper, VA Plumber From Old Town to Brandy Station

For plumbing, drains and sewer lines in Culpeper County, Virginia, homeowners can call Clog Heroes. The General Assembly created Culpeper County in 1749. By 1775 the county had raised its famous Culpeper Minutemen.

Today 54,397 people live here, across about 379 square miles of Piedmont between the Rappahannock River on the northeast and the Rapidan on the south. Most homes are fairly young: the median one was built in 1994.

Whatever the age of your house, Clog Heroes handles it the same way. The technician, licensed and background-checked, looks it over and talks you through what they see. Then comes a written price, and you decide.

Culpeper County Communities

Find your corner of the county. Old Town has its own section below; each community page covers the place itself: its roads, battlefields and history.

Old Town Culpeper, the County Seat

The Virginia House of Burgesses founded the Town of Fairfax in 1759. It's called Culpeper now, and the 2020 census counted 20,062 people in town.

Its center is the Culpeper Historic District, a 50-acre stretch of the downtown business district set aside in 1982. At the east end of Davis Street, the 1904 train depot holds the visitor center and the Museum of Culpeper History.

Homes in town run a little newer than the county as a whole. The median dates to 1998, across 7,137 housing units, and about 63 percent of them are single-family detached.

Lake Pelham, Wells and Mountain Run

The Town of Culpeper is the biggest water supplier in the county. It draws from the 254-acre Lake Pelham, fed by Mountain Run Lake, and from groundwater wells.

After use, town wastewater goes to a plant east of the town limits. Since its upgrade the plant can treat 6.0 million gallons a day, and it releases into Mountain Run, a branch of the Rappahannock.

Outside town, most homes and businesses run on their own well and septic system. The county plan counts about 51 community and non-community public water systems as well.

Culpeper Soil and Culpeper Winters

There's a soil series named for the county. Culpeper soil is very deep and well drained, found in the Blue Ridge foothills, and it was first established here in 1944.

Winter lasts longer than many newcomers expect. NOAA's Boston 4 SE station averages about 121 nights a year at or below freezing and a January low of 22.9 degrees. The last spring freeze often comes around April 21 and the first fall freeze by October 22, so drain those outdoor spigots early.

Virginia's 43rd State Park

Culpeper Battlefields State Park became Virginia's 43rd state park on June 8, 2024. It takes in parts of the Brandy Station, Cedar Mountain, Kelly's Ford and Rappahannock Station battlefields.
