Clog Heroes, the Stafford, VA Plumber From Aquia Harbour to Falmouth

Stafford County, Virginia is part of the Clog Heroes service area for plumbing, drains and sewer lines. Stafford had 24,789 people in 1970. By 2020 it had 157,746, with new homes following the I-95 interchanges at Aquia and Garrisonville. About eight in ten of those homes are lived in by the people who own them.

So when the plumbing acts up, you want someone who treats your house like it matters. A Clog Heroes technician looks at the whole problem before suggesting a fix, and the price is in writing before any work begins.

Stafford Courthouse, the County Seat

Stafford County was established in 1664, and at first it covered most of what is now Northern Virginia.

Its seat is Stafford Courthouse, where U.S. Route 1 meets Courthouse Road. The courthouse standing there now was built in 1922 and 1923, and it's the county's tenth. The 1783 courthouse before it stood on the ground the judicial complex occupies today.

County Water, Private Wells and Septic

Inside the county's Urban Services Area, your tap water comes from two reservoirs: Smith Lake in the north and Lake Mooney in the south. Each has its own treatment plant, rated at 10 and 12 million gallons a day. Between them and your street run 690 miles of water lines, 16 water tanks and 6,133 hydrants.

What leaves your house travels just as far. Stafford's wastewater system has 564 miles of sewer lines and 93 sewer pump stations.

Outside the Urban Services Area, roughly 10,000 Stafford homes run on their own well and septic tank. The county's plan expects new neighborhoods inside the service area to connect to public water and sewer, and it makes room for public service in places like Lake Arrowhead, where lots are too small for new septic systems.

Know which one you have? Mention it when you book. It tells the technician a lot before they pull into your driveway.

Clay to the West, Sand to the East

Interstate 95 splits Stafford in two. West of it is the Piedmont, rolling ground over hard rock. East of it is the Coastal Plain, a terraced landscape of loose sediment. A 1991 county groundwater study rated most Piedmont soil as clay loam and the Coastal Plain as sandy loam.

Then there's winter. Stafford's average January low is 21 degrees, so find your main water shutoff before the first hard freeze. You'll be glad you did.
