Clog Heroes, Your Occoquan, VA Plumber at the End of the Water
Occoquan, in Prince William County, can count on Clog Heroes for plumbing, drains and sewer lines. The town's name comes from an Algonquian Doeg word meaning "at the end of the water". Occoquan sits on the south bank of the Occoquan River at the Fall Line, all 0.2 square mile of it.
Clog Heroes takes care of plumbing, drains and sewer lines for Occoquan homeowners. You get a clear explanation, then a written price for the fix you pick.
Mills, Rockledge and the 1804 Charter
John Ballendine, remembered as the town's founder, built Rockledge in 1758. It is an 11-room home overlooking the town.
After the Revolution, Occoquan became a flour-milling center with one of the nation's first gristmills to use Oliver Evans's labor-saving inventions. The Occoquan Historic District joined the Virginia Landmarks Register on August 16, 1983.
The red-brick Hammill Hotel went up in 1804 at Union and Commerce Streets and still stands. That same year, Occoquan was chartered as a town on 31 acres.
Mill Street and the River
The Mill House Museum at 413 Mill Street is free and open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, with a scale model of the 18th-century Merchants' Mill inside.
Volunteers opened the museum on June 13, 1970. The antique sale they held that day grew into the town's twice-yearly arts and crafts show.
Today Occoquan is a restored artists' community of 1,035 residents, with shops and outdoor dining.
To get on the water, the Kayak Launch Ramp sits beneath the Route 123 bridge at 111 Mill Street, with free hand-carry access for kayaks, canoes and paddleboards. Boaters can also tie up at the Town Dock for part of a day or overnight.
Water From Upstream
Occoquan's drinking water and sewer service come from the Prince William County Service Authority, and Fairfax Water runs the Occoquan Reservoir just upstream of town.
